TEENAGERS across Greenwich borough are finding out their GCSE results this morning.
15.05: AN academy’s best ever GCSE results are “the stuff dreams are made of”.
Of the GCSE students at St Matthew Academy, Blackheath, 59 per cent got five A* to C including English and Maths.
And overall, 97 per cent achieved five A* to C grade GCSEs.
The school says these results represent a 30 per cent increase on last year’s.
Among the high acheivers were Stephane Gnamba who acheived nine A8 to C grades and Kingsley Nkwocha who managed an enormous 15 A* to Cs Vice principal Michael Barry said: “Students have excelled themselves with these results.
“They are the stuff dreams are made of and open doors to these young people that they would not have dreamed of a few years ago.
“With these results all of them will get into the college of their choice and are set for a very successful future.”
He went on: “What made the difference? A curriculum that meets the individual needs of our children combined with high-quality teaching and learning.
“We are so impressed with all the hard work and dedication they have shown.
“We’d like to thank the staff, their parents and the local community for supporting them to achieve these amazing results.”
12.35 SMILES beamed across the faces of Blackheath High School girls as they collected their GCSE results this morning.
Ninety eight per cent of the students secured a pass rate at grade A* to C with 60 per cent at grade A* or A.
Buffy Eldridge-Thomas, gained 11 A* grades plus 2 A grades. Delighted with her achievement she said: “I am overjoyed and cannot put my feelings adequately into words.”
However, the 16-year-olds were not the only pupils at the school in Vanbrugh Park celebrating their results with girls as young as 12 achieving A*s or As.
Alyssa Rijnen, aged 12 attained an A grade in Spanish and Olga Trinder, also 12, received an A* in Russian.
Many Year 10 students who have been studying GCSE Science and Religious Studies modules, also celebrated their results, including Sally Lardner who gained 3 A*s and one A grade.
The school’s headteacher Lisa Laws said: “I am very proud of our students and their exceptional results.
“One third of our girls achieved at least 9 passes at A* or A grade which is excellent and a credit to their hard work and the outstanding teaching.”
13.20: EXAM results at Blackheath Bluecoat have shot up to a record high for the second year running.
The Church of England school saw 48.4 per cent of its pupils acheiving at least five A* to C grades including English and maths.
That is a 7 per cent improvement on last year and a whopping 17 per cent higher than 2009.
In maths, 59 per cent acheived a C or higher while in English 57 per cent managed a C.
Head teacher Barnaby Ash said: “We’re delighted that our pupils’ hard work has paid off..
"One of our main aims is to help our Year 11 pupils achieve their full academic potential, and it is very pleasing that for the overwhelming majority of our pupils, this is the case.
"This will enable the vast majority to go on to follow their chosen course either at the Blackheath Bluecoat sixth form or at other sixth form institutions.”
Amongst those who did particularly well was Jacob Ujanga who achieved 16 A*to C GCSE grades, including nine A* and four A grades.
Sizen Basnet achieved 15 A* to C grades, including eight A* and six As while Krishna Sivakumaran managed 15 A* to Cs, including eight A* and six As.
Mr Ash said: “Our warmest congratulations go to all of our Year 11 pupils, parents/carers and staff who are rightly celebrating the results of their hard work.”
13.41: YET another school has praised this year’s GCSE results as the best ever.
At St Thomas More Catholic school in Eltham, 94 per cent of pupils acheived five or more A* to C grades this year.
And, for 80 per cent, that included English and maths.
Overall the percentage of A* and A grades was 42 per cent.
Assistant head Chris Doe said: “There was great excitement as pupils received their results this morning with so many great results.”
Particularly impressive were Jacob Bartlett who got nine A* and four A grades.
Megan Bone managed nine A* and two A grades.
