THERE was a review of the year's activities when Sidcup Rotary Club held its annual meeting.
Retiring president Peter Allsop recalled the visit of a large party of Swedish Rotarians from Kungsbacka, near Gothenburg, and the visit by club members to the First World War battlefields of Ypres, Salient and the Somme.
During the trip Mr Allsop laid a wreath at the Menin Gate, accompanied by buglars from the Ypres fire service.
The buglars play the Last Post every evening as a tribute to fallen British soldiers.
Mr Allsop was also invited to lead the ceremony and recited the well-known lines by Laurence Binyon in memory of the fallen.
On the charity front, a variety of club events held throughout the year raised £17,840.
This money has been distributed to charities including the Carlton resource centre, the Red Cross lunch for the elderly and the new hydrotherapy pool at Marlborough School, all in Sidcup.
Mr Allsop also handed on the club presidency to Chris Clayton.
