A MAIN road which was closed by a burst water main is expected to reopen today.

Thames Water engineers managed to stop the leak in Widmore Road, Bromley, about two hours after it started last Wednesday.

But the damage to the road and pavement was so severe the road had to be closed from the junction of Kentish Way to Plaistow Lane for a week.

Traffic was diverted along Plaistow Lane and buses went into College Road with vehicles leaving the town centre following College Road and then going into Homesdale Road while the works took place.

A Thames Water spokesman said: "We apologise to all our customers for any inconvenience caused.

"We worked as quickly as possible to fix the damage and get the road open."
