AS national days go, Wear Your Wedding Dress Day, is got to be one of the more bizarre ideas.
But a group of people hope to have raised more than £2,000 for children's charity Barnardo's by putting the day to good use.
Organiser Kim Bacon, 40, of Radnor Avenue, Blackfen, persuaded friends and acquaintances to dig out their old wedding suits, bridesmaid outfits and wedding dresses and attend a charity "wedding reception."
Held at Long Lane Football Club, Dursley Road, Eltham, "brides" complete with their bridal bouquets took part in a penalty shoot-out, and a throw-the- bouquet contest.
Mrs Bacon, who got married in 2003, was one of several brides who resorted to threading elastic across the back of their dresses to get them done up.
The fun evening ended with a wedding reception including food and a disco.
