A POIGNANT drama set in a burns centre during the Second World War has opened at the Greenwich Playhouse. Remodelled Lives recalls the Queen Victoria Cottage Hospital, which treated airmen disfigured by burns.
The airmen were known as the Guinea Pig Club, because reconstructive surgery was in its infancy.
Jimmy Barr's play is inspired by Dr. Mayhew's book The Reconstruction of Warriors. The author's grandmother was a nurse at the hospital.
Remodelled Lives, to September 24. Greenwich Playhouse, 020 8858 9256.
