TOYS have proved an important tool in teaching young people about the environment.
More than 20 children aged two to six took part in a woodland survival day and teddy bears picnic but the weather meant the event had to be held inside.
The youngsters all brought their own teddies to the event at the Bluewater shopping centre.
Children were split into groups of five and were taught how to build an island and shelters for their bears using string, wood and wool.
The event was organised by environmental charity Groundwork Kent Thames-side. The charity works with the community to improve the surrounding area and educate youngsters about the environment.
Groundwork education officer Sallyanne Hall said: "We hope the fun event will help children to think about the environment around them and what they need to live, such as water, shelter, air and food."
