THREE people arrested in connection with the mowing down of two police officers last month have been rebailed by police until the end of this month.

Sergeant Ian Ring, who heads the Thamesmead Safer Neighbourhoods policing team, and team member PC Rob Evans, were run down by four men in a silver grey Volkswagen Gof GTI, as the officers went to speak to them.

The incident took place on August 18 in Harrow Manorway, Thamesmead, near the Barge Pole pub, at about 11pm as the pair patrolled the area on bicycle.

Sergeant Ring, 43, is recovering from injuries which include a dislocated shoulder and pelvis, punctured lung and a broken collar bone. PC Evans was treated for shock, but was otherwise unhurt.

The car, which had been stolen from Kent seven days earlier, was found several hours later less than a mile from the scene. It had been burnt out.

On August 19, Bexley police arrested an Erith man, aged 21, in connection with causing grievous bodily harm. An 19-year-old woman was arrested on the same day on suispicion of arson and perverting the course of justice.

On August 21 a second man aged 19, from Thamesmead, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, after he voluntarily attended Bexleyheath police station.

They were all later released on police bail and returned to Bexleyheath police station this week.
