CONTRACTORS took nearly a week to fix a leaking water main despite the drought.
The mains in Francis Avenue, Bexleyheath, started losing water on August 25.
Contractors paid a visit the following day but did not fix the leak.
Retired health shop assistant Yvonne Reed, 69, of Francis Avenue, said: "Water was running into the front gardens of the bungalows next to it.
"It was a joke there's a hosepipe ban, and people have to water their plants with a watering can, but next to them was a stream of water."
Workers cordoned off the area on August 31.
A Thames Water spokesman said: "We arrived within hours of first hearing of this small leak.
"On digging down to the pipe we discovered the leak was not directly beneath where the water was appearing on the road.
"We brought in equipment to pinpoint the exact location of the leak, work which could only be carried out at night, and completed the repair on September 1."
