A HOSPITAL has reorganised its services for children after axing a specialist paediatric diabetes nurse.
Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, has been working with the Bexley Care Trust to provide joint services for families from this month.
These include a new child psychologist to help families cope with the diagnosis of the condition.
Two newly-trained specialist community nurses will work with children when they are in the hospital and when they return home.
There are also specialist diet advisers and a link nurse based in the hospital's children's ward to ensure continuity of care.
The changes will also see access to consultant services at Erith Hospital as well as at Queen Mary's.
The aim of the new services is to enable families to lead a normal life.
They will also provide co-ordinated treatment and support both at home and when it is necessary for the child to be treated in hospital.
