Pensioner Shelagh Hope was nominated by Keiley Scott, deputy manager at Age Concern, where Shelagh has volunteered for the past two years.
Miss Scott said: "She has had so many personal problems in her own life, being diagnosed with cancer and having diabetes.
"But no matter what knockbacks she has had in life she always turns up every Tuesday and Thursday.
"She's like a mum to us all here. She's a diamond."
Shelagh runs arts and craft workshops for the elderly visitors, helps in the snack bar and bakes for fundraising fairs.
