AQUATIC explorers used spoons and nets to delve into the unknown.
Children used the tools to investigate what creatures live in the pond at the Bromley Field Studies Centre, Grovelands Road, Orpington.
The nine youngsters aged between four and 11 found leeches, freshwater shrimp, snails, newts and dragonfly nymphs.
Environmental education instructor Katie Scanlan said: "It was a hands-on experience so they were learning by doing.
"The event made them aware of the impact humans have on animal habitats such as if people drop litter in the pond it will go bad."
The Mysteries of the Deep event was just one of a series of "eco-events" run by Bromley Council to teach children about nature during the school holidays.
