A BEEHIVE has been built to give people an insight into Charles Darwin's experiments.

It will allow visitors to Down House to see honeybees building honeycomb, just as the scientist did 150 years ago when trying to prove his theory of evolution.

The beehive has been built in Darwin's laboratory at the house in Luxted Road, Downe, as part of a programme to recreate some of his experiments.

Darwin's great-great-grandson, Randal Keynes, said: "The addition of this beehive will give visitors a greater appreciation of the range of his investigations and their value for our understanding of the natural world."
