DESPITE being illegal, hundreds of drivers in Bexley are still being caught using their mobile phones while driving.
Figures released to Jenny Jones, a London Assembly Green Party member, show 371 drivers in Bexley were issued with fixed penalty notices last year for using their phones while on the road.
Ms Jones accused those who continue to use their mobiles while driving of putting other road users' lives at risk.
She said: "Driving while using a mobile phone is incredibly risky and stupid behaviour."
Although the figures also revealed enforcement is patchy across the capital, she added: "Stopping drivers who are using their mobile phones sends out a clear message to the irresponsible minority they cannot expect to get away with putting people's lives at risk any longer."
