POLICE are advising people how to avoid becoming a victim of bogus callers.
They may pose as workers from gas, electricity or water companies, officials from the council or even police officers.
If you are not expecting someone to call, lock your back door before answering the front door.
Often one caller will distract you while an accomplice enters through the back door.
Put the safety chain on before answering.

Ask for the caller's identity card and check the number on their card in the phone book.
Genuine callers will not mind waiting while you confirm their identity.
