A GROUP of youngsters has trekked 32 miles in a bid to help an organisation which has helped them.

The nine young people, aged between 13 and 18, are members of the Duke of Edinburgh Award's open centres in Sidcup and Erith.

They were raising cash for the Duke of Edinburgh Jubilee Fund.

Youngsters completed their walk along the North Downs Way near Maidstone.

Despite their aching legs and blisters, they were delighted to have raised more than £400.

The awards scheme celebrated its 50th birthday this year and as part of the celebrations, a jubilee fund has been set up to raise cash to support disadvantaged young people.

So far Bexley's Duke of Edinburgh Award participants have raised nearly £1,000 through the walk, barbecues and a sponsored silence.

Last month Sarah Thomas, an award leader at the Sidcup centre, also did a sky dive for the fund.
