SHOPPERS who strayed from the high street picked up sale bargains.
Trader Scivus sold slaves at the Crofton Roman Villa, Crofton Road, Orpington, in a re-creation of a Roman-era sale.
Parents and other visitors bid in Roman money for six children aged between three and 12 who pretended to be slaves.
The cheapest slave went for 15 denari and the most expensive, who was bought to be a tutor, was sold for 20,000 denari.
Crofton Roman Villa spokesman Edna Mynott said: "It was all a bit of fun and some of the bids got a bit silly. The sale brought it alive for the children.
"When they step up and take part they remember a lot more and it was a good way of them learning but enjoying it."
