KEEN allotment holders have been trying to tempt others into joining them, as part of National Allotment Week.
Allotment sites have been hosting open days where people could have a look around and talk to plot holders about what is involved.
The site in Harland Avenue, Sidcup, is holding its open day on September 10 between 10am and 4pm.
Gardeners have also been in the Broadway, Bexleyheath, talking to shoppers about the advantages of renting an allotment.
There has even been a free rental giveaway.
Bexley has 1,500 plots at 36 locations around the borough and 1,200 hard working plot holders.
Bill Row, chairman of Bexley Federation of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners (BFALG), said: "Having an allotment today does not mean you are elderly and retired.
"Many allotments are being rented by young families for the first time, who are concerned their children eat healthy food and get some outdoor exercise."
Bexley would welcome any new plot holders, even if they live just outside the borough.
Plots cost £32.30 a year, and half-size ones are also available.
There are also 50 per cent discounts for people aged over 60, disabled people, unemployed people, medically retired people or those in receipt of income support or family credit.
To find out more, call the allotment help desk on 01322 356858 or log onto bexley.gov.uk or BFALG's site at bfalg.co.uk
