HUNDREDS OF youngsters in Lewisham and Greenwich are celebrating their success after another rise in the GCSE pass rate.

Lewisham's students pushed up the pass rate in comparison to last year by 4.5 per cent - with 54 per cent of all exam entrants receiving at least five A* to C grades.

There is plenty of celebrating around Greenwich too.

At Plumstead Manor 57 per cent of 215 pupils notched up five or more A* to C passes.

Amie Goodwin, 16, one of the school's highest achievers, netted four A*s and five As shared celebrations with her 13-year-old sister Hannah. She was awarded grade B in statistics, three years ahead of her classmates.

Assistant headteacher Angela Sanders said: "We're so excited, our results are 11 per cent up on last year and it represents a lot of hard work by everyone."

Identical twins Emily and Kate Vaughan William, 16, scooped six A*s and four As each, scoring the same results in each subject at Blackheath High School.

Also in Greenwich, 98 per cent of Eltham College student achieved top grades.

Sydenham High School, St Dunstan's College, Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College and Prendergast had Lewisham's highest achieving pupils scoring 97.5 per cent, 95 per cent, 93 per cent and 80 per cent.

Pupils at Colfe's School in Horn Park Lane, Lee, achieved a 100 per cent A to C pass rate.

Addey and Stanhope School, New Cross Road, New Cross, celebrated a 11 per cent jump with 60 per cent of pupils achieving A to C grades.

One outstanding student, Ayse Toker, 16, who achieved three A*, four As, four Bs and a C, said: "I didn't expect these grades. They are above what I predicted. I hope to one day study law or architecture."

Headteacher Ann Potter said: "We're delighted with these results and it is what we were hoping for.

"To have done so well demonstrates the extraordinary support we've had from staff and parents, plus of course the excellent hard work of our pupils. I'm very proud."
