A CORONER has recorded an accidental death verdict on a Bexleyheath man who died while climbing in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.

Tim Ward-Wilson, of Cloudesley Road, Bexleyheath, died in a freak accident on Boxing Day 2009, aged 25.

A keen climber, he had been helping to map new climbing routes to attract tourists to the area.

On the day he died, he had cried off climbing because his knee hurt.

He told team members he was going back to their hut to take photographs and work on an article for the Royal Geographical Society.

On their return they could not find Tim and went looking for him.

They found him on a small slope, lying behind a boulder, injured and incoherent.

It is thought he may have slipped and slammed into the boulder, rupturing his liver.

He died from internal bleeding.

His parents John and Janice attended the inquest last week at Southwark Coroner’s Court.

Afterwards Mrs Ward-Wilson described hearing about their son’s last hours as “harrowing and very emotional”.

The family has launched an annual adventure grant award in their son’s name.
