A LACK of water and some very high temperatures have played havoc with gardens this summer.
But there was still enough high- quality flowers and produce to ensure Falconwood and District Horticultural Society's annual show was a success, despite a drop in entries this year.
While fruit and vegetable entries and some flower varieties wilted or cropped early because of the hot weather, dahlias flourished and the show produced some excellent blooms.
There were also lots of entries in the flower arranging and baking classes, while Thomas Dawson, 12, won the two children's class cups as well as showing in some of the adult classes.
Major winners were:
John Perkins who collected the committee memorial trophy for best in show; Curtis cup, for best dahlias; Meyer cup, for best floral exhibit, and National Dahlia Society silver, for best dahlias.
