A NEW musical revue, opening tomorrow at the Brockley Jack theatre, takes its cue from one of America's most prolific songwriters.
Listen To My Heart features the music of David Friedman, the songwriter and producer who forged Nancy La Mott's career.
His songs have been recorded by the likes of Diana Ross, Barry Manilow and Petula Clark.
Conductor and vocal arranger on Disney's Hollywood hits including Beauty And The Beast and Pocahontas, David went on to compose the soundtrack for Aladdin And The King of Thieves.
Hither Green-based producer and director Joseph Walsh says: "I discovered David's music as a teenager and I've been a fan ever since."
David has been supporting the project and hopes to be personally involved in a future West End production of the show.
The maestro says: "I can think of nothing more gratifying than to present Listen To My Heart with me at the piano and some of London's finest singers singing.
"It would surely be another dream come true."
Joseph is also producing Twisted, The Annie Ross Story.
The show looks at the life and music of jazz legend Annie Ross.
Joseph explains: "Annie Ross performed alongside the likes of Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Judy Garland but she's merely a footnote in history. We believe her gritty, inspiring story will create a new generation of fans."
