THE speaker last month was Mr J Balcon who spoke about his father, film producer Sir Michael Balcon.
Sir Michael was knighted in 1947 for services to Norway. He was born in 1896.
In the First World War he was a lieutenant in the Home Guard, due to poor eyesight, and worked in a Dunlop Factory.
He ran the Victor Motion Picture Co before paying £14,000 for Islington Studios, where Alfred Hitchcock was working.
Members won the district bat and trap competition at Horton Kirby.
Next month is our produce show.
The group meets the third Tuesday of the month at Joydens Wood Community Centre, between 7.30pm and 10pm.
