AN ENVIRONMENTAL group planning work to clear rubbish from Thamesmead's network of canals and river foreshore, is looking for volunteers.
Thames21 has teamed up with Gallions Housing Association for its drive to not just clean the waterways but discourage people from dropping litter into them.
It is also trying to set up adopt-a-river groups and is looking for a number of riverkeeper volunteers.
Its next clean-up is on Saturday between 11am and 3pm.
Volunteers should meet on the green in Huchins Road, Thamesmead, outside Woolwich Polytechnic School.
All the health and safety equipment needed will be supplied by Thames21.
Children aged under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
