A new Conservative Party housing paper is proposing to give suburban Britain a makeover.
David Cameron says if the party was elected into power it would empower architects by giving them free reign to experiment outside the typical house designs which currently line UK streets.
The plans are outlined in the paper Renewing Suburbia: Creating Suburban Villages which claims Brits are depressed by the uniform appearance of the UK's suburban estates.
Renewing Surburbia details changes to housing policy which include plans to replace and demolish the disliked estates, replacing them with mixed-use developments - places where people can live, work and spend their leisure time.
West Silvertown, a development in Docklands, has been identified by the party as an example of good practice. It is an urban village with housing and commercial space.
