GRAND DESIGNS presenter and architect Kevin McCloud has invited more than 60 architectural practices to join his bid in refreshing prefabricated construction methods.
As part of this campaign he has launched a development firm called Hab (Happiness Architecture Beauty) which aims to build between 50 and 100 sustainable and different style homes in a scheme to be shown on Channel 4.
Mr McCloud is currently looking at around 50 potential sites and is calling for feedback from other building professionals to create a forum-style project.
He feels by broadcasting the benefits of prefabricated design the public's view of these homes will improve and the demand for this construction method will also rise.
Hab's key aims, which Mr McCloud admits are ambitious, is to develop a new generation of prefabricated housing which will be contextual, sustainable, contemporary, enjoyable, sociable, affordable and profitable. A shortlist of the best designs for a new prefab model will be announced in November.
