Halifax Estate Agents has been researching the impact of a home's garden on its sale and has found the garden gnome has lost its appeal - buyers favour the traditional English rose.
Just one per cent of those surveyed by the Halifax said gnomes would add to a garden's appeal.
The most popular answer was a water feature, closely followed by decking UK homeowners spend nearly £5bn a year on their gardens, according to Halifax figures.
