POLICE have launched a crackdown on burglars.
Operation Castle aims to cut burglary by promoting Neighbourhood Watch schemes, distributing crime reduction leaflets and having a greater police presence in crime- ridden areas.
Police are advising residents to always lock doors and windows, not leave keys in obvious places and to fit alarms and security lighting.
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Cochrane, who is in charge of the north Kent operation, said: "We want to reduce the number of burglaries throughout the area.
"Seasonally there is an increase in burglaries at this time of year, especially those involving windows and doors left open in hot weather."
If you have any information about a burglary, call the north Kent police burglary hotline on 01322 283096 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
