PENSIONERS took to the streets in the latest chapter of their campaign to stop London's Olympic levy.
They were in Bexleyheath Broadway last Saturday asking shoppers to sign their petition against the decision to make Londoners pay extra council tax for the next 10 years to help pay for the 2012 Games.
The campaigners, members of the Bexley Pensioners' Forum, collected more than 160 signatures in just over an hour before pouring rain forced them to abandon their efforts.
The forum objects to Londoners having to pay extra for the Games and being forced to underwrite any losses from the Olympics.
They say the cost should be shared by the whole country.
So far their petition has attracted more than 5,000 signatures and is still growing.
Members plan more town centre visits to collect futher support. Petition forms are available from: Mr P Coulter, 4 Beechwood Crescent, Bexleyheath DA7 4EL.
