A CHARITABLE trust set up in memory of 105 local men who died in the First World War is still helping people today.
Two of the lastest on the list of beneficiaries are teenagers who have been given grants by the East Wickham and Welling War Memorial Trust to help them embark on trips of a lifetime.
Bess Novitt, 17, of Carlton Road, Welling, who is a pupil at Blackfen School for Girls, Blackfen, organised her own trip to the Middle East.
She lived the life of a nomad, travelling by camel and living in a Bedouin tent while trekking across the desert and visiting sites of interest.
Patrick Seng, 16, a student at Bexley Grammar School, Welling, went on a World Team Challenge expedition to Vietnam.
He went trekking through the jungle and riding on elephants as well as helping in projects for the disabled.
Patrick lives in Welling High Street.
Both had saved hard for their trips but applied to the trust to help with their costs.
The trust offers grants to community organisations and individuals who live or are based in East Wickham and Welling.
The grants can be used for improving or hiring premises and character-building courses or expeditions.
