A £30M state-of-the-art police station boasting 40 cells and four storeys is to be built.
The operations centre in Thamesway, Northfleet, will aim to provide a better working environment for officers with more parking facilities, offices and conference rooms.
It will also include a central atrium which will provide a communal area and restaurants.
An environmentally-friendly geothermal heating and cooling system will be used to reduce energy consumption.
North Kent area commander Chief Superintendent Gary Beautridge said: "We aim to provide police stations and officers to make it easier for people to contact us in person, perhaps to report crimes, raise concerns or seek advice.
"These buildings will be more visible and provide a more welcoming environment than the existing older buildings."
Work on the station is due to commence this month and is planned to be completed by summer 2008.
