A NEW Government-subsidised audit is planned to make homeowners more aware of the amount of carbon their home emits.
Tony Blair hopes the assessments will encourage people to reduce their emissions by making small changes around the home. Similar audits are already offered by environmental groups but the Government wants to introduce a centrally-funded scheme.
Around 30 per cent of the UK's carbon emissions are generated by homes but by installing features such as energy saving lightbulbs or by turning down the central heating just one notch this could be significantly reduced.
The audit will look for double-glazing and roof insulation and suggest installing other energy-saving features such as solar panels and wind turbines.
