This is Dilly the penguin. She lives in the North Pole, far away from where you are!
Dilly's dad likes to cook, and her mum likes skiing races. When these two things came together, strange things happened. What happened the strangest time was written in a book. And you just happened to have started to read it!
One freezing day, Dilly got ready for Snow School. She was rushing around trying to find her toothbrush when suddenly, a great RROOAARRR!!! rattled the igloo.
"Bob!" she shouted, laughing. Bob was her friend, a sweet polar bear cub. He also went to Snow School.
"Did I scare you?" asked Bob hopefully.
"Not a bit!" replied Dilly, although she had been a little shocked.
"Shall we go to Snow School then?" Bob said.
"Ok then," and he and Dilly trotted and flopped away in the early morning sun.
When they sat down in Snow School a few minutes later, Miss Ice, an old, educated grey seal announced that they would be entering in the International Skiing Competition!
The ISC (International Skiing Competition) is a skiing competition where all the legendary skiers like Sally Seal and Wonka Wolf compete in. It still happens every year but you'll never see it because humans are so LOUD that all the animals run away when anyone comes.
"You must design your own skis and race!" Miss Ice continued.
As soon as Dilly got home, she thought of a design. A funny design but a well designed design. For the next nine days, she worked on building it. When it was finished, she gave it a trial ride around the block. Let's fast forward till the day of the competition.
The day dawned bright, and Dilly strapped her skis to her flippers and went to the competition nervously. Everyone pointed. Some people laughed. The race started. Dilly skied as fast as she could and raced to the finish line. She hurtled through it and cheered with the others.
She had won!
But there's one more thing. I bet you're wondering what her skis were like. Remember how I told you that cooking and skiing would come together as one? Well Dilly's skis were no ordinary skis. Dilly's skis were frying pans painted with all sorts of beautiful good luck charms and tied to her feet with spaghetti! Silly Dilly!
