NEIGHBOURS of a married couple found dead in Northfleet yesterday have reacted with shock.

The body of a 46-year-old man was found in a burning car outside his home in Beaumont Drive.

His wife's body was later found by police inside the house.

The women has been identified as Sanambir Punni, aged 38.

The body of the man has not been formally identified due to the severity of his injuries and police are awaiting results of DNA tests which could take up to a week.

A spokesman said police believe this to be a tragic domestic incident.

Neighbour Nicholas Brown, 32, said: "It seems like an isolated incident. The police have been very quiet about it.

"There is a feeling of sadness (in the street) as the people lost their lives.

"I only found out this morning. It's very early and there are only sketchy details.

"It seemed like a normal household. There is so much that goes on these days behind people's closed doors.

"This is a sad thing that's happened. It seems someone has killed someone then killed themselves.

"It's not a nice state of affairs under any circumstances."

Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "I was very shocked and am waiting to find out what happened.

"It's a very quiet street and we are all shocked it happened here. I am worried, I don't know the story."

It is believed the couple had a 19-year-old daughter and a son around 14-years-old who was away at the time of the deaths.

Firefighters were called to the house just after 12.30pm yesterday to reports of a burning car.

A police spokesman said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
