THE RUGBY club at the heart of an eye gouging incident will now face disciplinary action.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has charged Maidstone RFC with conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game after Gravesend RFC’s Clarence Harding was left blind in one eye.

The 27-year-old lost the vision in his right eye after the cup match at Mote Park in Maidstone on January 17.

An RFU hearing on November 23 found that Maidstone player Matt Iles, who had been accused, was not guilty.

A statement on Maidstone RFC’s website said: “Maidstone Rugby deny all allegations against it and will make no further comment until the conclusion of the hearing.”
