Kent police is advising commuters to travel only when absolutely necessary.
The warning comes after severe snow conditions, which have left roads treacherous ice with very poor visibility.
Reports of freezing fog around the county are adding to problems for drivers.
Travel difficulties are anticipated to continue throughout the day and people travelling should expect severe delays and extremely hazardous driving conditions.
M25
People are being urged to use the M25 with care.
Several single vehicle collisions in the outside lane between junctions 3 and 4, B carriageway are causing problems for motorists.
There is black ice and snow in this area.
Kent police's Chief Inspector Andy Reeves said: "Motorists should be prepared, please consider your safety and decide if your journey is really necessary.
"If you do travel, make sure you have the right provisions for emergencies. If you are already at work, you should give serious consideration to getting home before conditions worsen.
"We urge everyone to continue listening to local broadcasts and check news websites before setting out on their journey.
"If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours or relatives, please remember to check on them to ensure they are safe and well.
"Pedestrians are reminded to take great care, as icy conditions continue to make footpaths dangerous."
