RESIDENTS are objecting to a new convenience store selling alcohol.
Eltham Food and Wine, Court Yard, Eltham, has applied to Greenwich Council for a licence to sell alcohol between 8am and 11pm from Monday to Sunday.
A licensing sub-committee is due to make its decision at Woolwich Town Hall on August 15.
If members agree to grant the store the licence, it could open within weeks but residents are concerned underage drinking would be encouraged in the area.
They argue there is no need for another store selling alcohol with two other off-licences within walking distance and supermarkets selling alcohol.
In a letter of objection, resident Linda Robins, said: "I believe the shop of this type selling alcohol until late encourages youngsters to congregate outside in the evenings and cause trouble."
