A NEW leisure centre has come top in a countrywide survey for the number of disabled people using its facilities.
Erith Leisure Centre achieved the number one spot in a survey by Sport England.
When the revamped centre reopened last year it also introduced an inclusive fitness initiative and became an accredited facility for disabled people.
It commits the centre to becoming as accessible as possible to people with disabilities.
The centre in Avenue Road, Erith, runs a GP referral scheme, hosts a number of disability sports events and was the venue for a Let's Talk Sport performance by adults with learning difficulties.
There are swimming lessons for disabled children organised in conjuction with Bexley SNAP (Special Needs Access to Provision).
Water rehabilition sessions are run with Headway, a charity which supports people with head and spinal injuries.
There are also swimming lessons for children with hearing difficulties which are run in conjunction with SNAP and the Bexley Deaf Association.
