TO CELEBRATE the opening of its new Waterline exhibition, the National Maritime Museum will be screening vintage films made by cruiseliners in the 1960s.
The three features, which were made to entice holidaying Brits on to the ships of the day, feature the music of John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, the acting talents of Sid James and depict the opulance and glamour of cruising the open waves with discos, casinos and lavish banquets.
The special screening on December 3 will be the first time since the swinging 60s the footage has been shown to the public.
The free exhibition looks back to the heyday of cruising with a collection of the Greenwich museum's archive photographs, taken between 1925 and 1970.
From posed holiday snaps taken in a time when tourists did not routinely own their own cameras to more candid shots of overworked crew, Waterline depicts the joys, trials and peculiarities of a bygone world.
