CONSTRUCTION work is due to begin at Blackheath train station to provide passengers with step-free access between the entrance and platforms.
The project, which is part of the Department for Transport's £370m Access for All scheme, includes the installation of a new lift and a new staircase to platform one which serves London-bound trains.
A new gate will also be installed to re-open the existing access point to platform two which serves trains towards Kent.
The work, which begins on Monday (October 11), will be completed by next Spring.
Southeastern’s service delivery director, Vince Lucas, said: ”We are committed to making use of the railways as easy as possible and this is just another vital part in achieving this.”
A temporary footbridge will be in place to allow passenger access to platform one during the work.
