TWO school friends have set out on a charity bike ride from Greenwich to Berlin.
Robert Pocock and David Sarin, both 26-years-old and from Gravesend are cycling more than 577 miles to raise money for The British Heart Foundation.
Robert’s dad, Arthur Pocock passed away earlier this year from heart problems and was supported by the charity whilst he was ill.
Robert and David have decided to embark on their challenge in memory of Mr Pocock and to give back to the Foundation.
The pair who have been friends for 15 years hope to complete the ride in just seven days and will only be eating the food they have in their backpacks throughout each day.
These energy bars, energy gels and cans of tuna will have to sustain them for the 8 to 10 hours they plan to cycle daily.
Setting out from Greenwich, the duo will cycle to Dover, get a ferry to France and then cycle the remainder of the journey to Berlin where Robert’s sister and her family live.
David Sarin of College Road is a waiter and Robert Pocock of Alanbrooke Road is a personal trainer.
Neither of them have any formal training and they have both spent the past four months training and preparing for their trip.
They had originally wanted to raise £2000, but with the costs of the ride mounting up, now hope to raise £5000.
A JustGiving page has been set up for people to donate money http://original.justgiving.com/davidsarin
