A MURDER inquiry is underway after a man was stabbed to death in Sydenham yesterday (September 5).
Emergency services were called to Lucas Court, Bell Green Lane, to reports of a man having been injured at around 3.20am.
Paramedics treated the man, who is believed to be in his 40s, but could not save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe they know his identity and are trying to trace his next of kin.
A post mortem examination will be held today (September 6).
Detectives retain an open mind as to the circumstances of the incident and any motive.
Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons said: “"We are asking anyone who was in the Bell Green area of Sydenham, and saw or heard anything in the vicinity of Lucas Court from around 03.00hrs, to come forward."

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in custody at a south London police station.
