A dominant second half display saw Mead pull back a one goal half time deficit to record their second win in the space of 5 days. How Ware went in at the break a goal to the good is something of a mystery as Mead missed a hatful of chances during the opening 45 minutes. Despite this it was the visitors who threatened first when with just 2 minutes on the clock, Billy Healey set up John Megisks whose effort was parried by Mead keeper Sam Mott.
Mead soon stamped their authority on the game smart interplay by Gabs Momodu and Marcus Perona paved the way for Ashley Probets to send a shot fizzing across the face of the Ware goal. Probets pin point cross then found Danny Crouch whose close range header drew a smart save from Joe Taylor. Crouch was soon the provider as he produced some smart play before teeing the ball up for Gabs Momodu whose strike drifted wide.
The home side were left stunned when on 18 minutes the men from Hertfordshire moved in front Luke Marshall was given too much space and he set up Michael Toner to calmly dispatch the ball into the net. This set back failed to deter the home side and they were soon swarming all over the Ware rearguard.
Probets cross was squared by Crouch into the path of Perona and his acute angle shot flashed across the goal face. It was soon Scot Mulholland’s turn to torment the Ware defence as his corner hit a defender to leave the ball falling to the feet of Probets whose goalbound shot was deflected to safety.
Despite this heavy Mead onslaught the visitors almost again hit Mead with a second sucker punch, John Frendo slid the ball into the danger area and after the ball had stuck at the feet of Lew Tozer a goalmouth scramble arose and Chris Sargent with his head and Healey with a shot wasted golden opportunities.
These two missed opportunities were so nearly punished as half time approached, Probets thrughball left Gabs Momodu bearing down on the Ware goal outstripping his marker Joe Clemo but the Mead striker saw the ball drift just the wrong side of the post.
Ware began the second half strongly, Toner played in Marshall who was thwarted by a terrific last ditch tackle by Callum McGeehan, moments later a fine opportunist strike via Marshall flew narrowly wide. This would prove to be Ware’s final assault on the home side’s goal as Mead lay seige to the ware defence.
With 57 minutes on the clock they were back on level terms. A moment of madness saw keeper Taylor direct the ball straight into the path of Crouch to gift the former Dartford striker and Mead a goal. The Mead sorties forward kept coming and coming. Probets deep ball to the far post was screwed back by Crouch, and Perona’s blistering drive flew against Taylor, another delivery from Probets was steered towards Tozer but the big number 6 failed to make contact. With 65 minutes on the clock Ware were reduced to ten men when Frendo was dismissed for a disgraceful elbow that left Perona pole axed on the ground.
Things then got worse for the visitors as they fell behind with 17 minutes remaining. Gabs Momodu made fine inroads down the left before unleashing a cross that cannoned back off the woodwork into the grateful trail of Crouch who duly slotted home his second goal of the afternoon. The other Momodu twin – Raphael then featured as he made a storming run from deep in his own half before slipping the ball towards Perona whose rasping effort crashed against the crossbar.
Perona was now terrorising the Ware defence continously and this time from Crouch’s smart pass on the turn, he smashed the ball over the bar. Alex Tiesse was introduced as a substitute for the final few minutes and he almost grabbed an assist as he latched onto Probets fee kick and played in James Campbell only to blast over the bar.
The ever threatening third goal finally arrived in the 2nd minute of injury time. The Ware defence was static and Probets with yet another free kick was allowed to poke the ball into the heart of the box from which Gabs Momodu with a fine first time effort left the ball nestling in the back of the net to claim his second goal in as many games.
