A SERIES of canal clean-ups has continued with the third one of the summer.
Volunteers and staff from Trust Thamesmead headed into the town centre’s Butts canal to remove rubbish along with excess algae and pennywort.
Trust marketing officer Julia Hickson said: “We didn’t find treasure as nine-year-old Sophie had hoped but volunteers did find everything from fast food wrappers and empty drink cans and bottles to a bundle of newspapers and a television.
“The wildlife of Butts canal can sleep tonight knowing that they aren’t in danger of getting tangled in litter.”
More clean-ups, organised by charity Thames21, will be taking place throughout September.
