YOUNGSTERS from Bexley who have been taking part a London Fire Brigade programme have been pitting themselves against others on the scheme from across London.
The LIFE (Local Intervention Fire Education) programme teaches young people fire fighting skills alongside real firefighters, to help improve their self esteem and reduce anti-social behaviour.
Nine LIFE teams representing 13 London boroughs undertook the London LIFE Challenge held at the brigade’s headquarters in Lambeth in front of more than 200 spectators.
They competed against each other in a series of gym-based exercises before putting on their firefighting gear and breathing apparatus to carry out tasks such as hauling a hose reel upstairs.
Although they put up a good show, the Bexley team, which trains at Erith fire station, did not feature in the top three.
