THERE were winners all round when a veterans’ club invited local charities to share its garden for the afternoon to hold a fundraising fete.
Erith Veterans Club hosted around 15 charities ranging from Bexley Mencap to the WI, who all set up their stalls in the gardens at the club in Park Crescent, Erith.
The club wrote to all the charities inviting them to take part in the event as a way of offering a helping hand.
It also invited visitors to tour the club and find out more about its activities.
Not only did the charities raise an average of £70 each, the club also picked up 10 new members.
The veterans hope to stage a similar event next year.
To join the veterans’ club, people have to be aged over 55 and live in Bexley.
