AN INVESTIGATION is under way following a blaze which took 50 firefighters to put out after it tore through a school building in Forest Hill.
When the first crews arrived at Stillness Junior School, Brockley Rise, they found the annexe building was well alight.
Half of the ground floor, first floor and roof were on fire and this was spreading before the fire crews managed to get it under control within around two hours.
At its height 10 fire engines were at the scene and firefighters managed to stop the flames from spreading to the other buildings on the site.
They were called at around 5.20pm on Saturday and the last crews left the incident at around 11am the next day.
It is not yet known what caused the fire and it is under investigation.
In a statement on the school’s website, headteacher Selina Sharpe says the annexe building has been severely damaged and cannot be used.
But she says school is still expected to start as planned next Monday (September 6) although there will be some adjustments to the classrooms.
