REFURBISHMENTS to the Blackwall Tunnel are set to be competed six months early.
Work on the northbound Blackwall Tunnel began in February and was expected to last three years while the £70 million project was carried out.
But Transport for London has announced the refurbishment will be completed before the Olympics.
It has also cancelled the planned weekend closure which was due to take place from September 10 to September 13.
The final weekend closure this year will now take place from 9pm on October 15 to 5am on October 18.
Motorists are being diverted through the southbound tunnel while the northbound tunnel is closed five nights a week, meaning no access south of the river from 9pm to 5pm.
The Blackwall Tunnel Protest Group has been set up on Facebook to fight the closures.
