A ROUTINE check at a station by British Transport Police (BTP) uncovered a bank fraud involving more than £60,000.
When officers stopped Mark Samson at Bethnal Green he was carrying a bank card and documents in someone else’s name On Monday Samuel Abu, aged 23, of Merlin Road, Welling, was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court, of conspiracy to defraud, and possessing and supplying articles for use in fraud.
The court heard Abu used his position in a Bayswater bank to fraudulently open a second account for an overseas customer, and transferred £61,000 of the customer’s funds.
Samson posed as the owner of the new account and was supplied by Abu with a cash card and PIN.
Abu received a 12-month jail sentence suspended for two years, 300 hours community service and a four-month curfew order between 9pm and 6am.
Samson, aged 23 from Ilford, was convicted of conspiracy to defraud and received a four-month jail sentence suspended for two years, 100 hours community service and a one-month curfew.
Syed Shah, aged 25 of Leyton, also received bank documents from Abu and was found guity of four counts of possessing articles for use in fraud.
He received eight months in jail suspended for two years, 120 hours community service and a two-month curfew.
