TEENAGERS are celebrating after achieving outstanding GCSE results.

Students in Lewisham with five or more A* to C grades including maths and English was 48 per cent this year, up one per cent from last year.

In Greenwich, 49.8 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades including English and maths, up 6.4 per cent on last year.

Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for children and young people Councillor Jackie Smith hailed the results as a "record" for the borough.

St Matthew's Academy in St. Joseph's Vale, Blackheath, had the best improvement rate in Lewisham.

The number of pupils getting five or more A* to C grades including maths and English leaped by 21 per cent to 44 per cent.

A total of 51 per cent of students from Deptford Green School in Amersham Vale, New Cross, also achieved at least five A* to C grades including maths and English, which is up 10 per cent compared to last year.

Headteacher Peter Campling said: “This represents the great improvements which have been taking place at the school in the last few years and is down to the hard work of our students and the dynamic and innovative approach of its teachers and leaders.”

Students at Thomas Tallis School in Kidbrooke Park Road, Blackheath, achieved the best GCSE results in the school’s history with a 99 per cent pass rate.

It was smiles all round at Bonus Pastor School in Winlaton Road, Downham, as students achieved the school’s best ever GCSE results with 100 per cent of pupils gaining at least five A* to G grades.

In total 40.3 per cent of students at Blackheath Bluecoat School in Old Dover Road, Blackheath, gained at least five A* to C grades including English and maths.

St Thomas More Roman Catholic School in Footscray Road, Eltham, recorded 99.1 per cent of students gaining five or more A* to G grades including English and maths.

Pupils at Colfe School in Horn Park Lane, Lee, celebrated a 100 per cent pass rate with 96.7 per cent of students gaining A* to C grades.

Top performers from the public school included Katerina Charalambous, Alex Hill, and Charlie Whittaker, all aged16, who each achieved 10 A*s.

Trinity School in Leahurst Road, Lewisham, which was formally Northbrook School, recorded 48 per cent of students achieving five A* to C grades including maths and English.

Sixteen-year-old Elizabeth Andam achieved seven A*s and four As.

She said: “I am feeling so happy right now. It’s amazing and I am really pleased with my results ”.
