A TOWN council is opposing a developer’s plans to build 50 new homes as it believes the scheme will cause traffic and parking problems.

P J Mullan & Sons Ltd wants to demolish three empty bungalows in Knockhall Road, Greenhithe, and replace them with 36 apartments and 14 maisonettes, along with parking and an access road.

Dartford Council’s development control board will decide on the developer’s application for outline planning permission for the scheme at a meeting tomorrow evening (September 2).

Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council has written to the council to oppose the plans, saying the scheme would be an “over-development of the site”.

A town council spokesman said the development would have “inadequate off-street parking” which will cause an “increase in on-street parking in an area where there is very limited capacity”.

Paul Mullan, director of P J Mullan & Sons Ltd, says the development fits in with Dartford Council and government guidelines on creating more homes in Greenhithe.

He said: “The parish council has concerns about over-development, which I understand to a degree, but the application lines up with planning policy and government directives on building more homes in the area.”

Mr Mullan disagrees with the parish council’s claim the scheme would have “inadequate off-street parking, and says there would be enough parking spaces for the development’s residents.

He said: “We have provided 64 parking spaces in the plans. That works out at 1.28 spaces per property, and planning guidelines state there should be a minimum of 1.2 per property.”
